Prep

So I've been prepping myself for Hawaii. I've bought the crazy sunscreen, I'm bringing a hat, I've got a tunic that I'll wear over my bathing suit, and I've got my beach reads.
Now the scariest part about this trip is having to squeeze into a bathing suit. I haven't worn one since last summer when I went to the beach with my nephews. I'm a lot slimmer now, especially with my crazy workout regime, so I'm hoping that I'll be a little more confident. PinkPolish and I are gonna go swim suit shopping just before I leave when I'll be at my lowest weight and feeling pretty darn good. Or at least I hope I'll be feeling that way!
Does anybody have any recommendations for things to do in Hawaii? So far I've got zip-lining, surfing, the Road to Hana, visit a black sand beach, volcano tour, hiking trails, shopping, luau...what else am I missing? I bought two guidebooks since we're going to visit two islands: O'ahu and Maui.
Yesterday I had a training session which was a little different than what I'm normally used to. My trainer asked me if I wanted to go outside for a workout, which was awesome! We went running at a park that's 5 minutes from the gym and had an awesome time. At the end of the run we even played frisbee! (That was my favourite part.) I got to know my trainer outside of the gym and he's a really cool guy.
Anyhow, since I'm at work, I should get back to doing something productive before my boss walks by and decides to fire me.

Another wasted day

Here I am, sitting in the office, yet away, wasting away. I feel like I'm losing parts of my life that I'll never get back. Yeah, I'm making money, and yeah, I should probably thank my lucky starts that I got a job this summer after the whole school debacle, but sheesh, in the present moment, it womps.
Here's what I did today. I fetched the coffee, I made some edits to a massive spreadsheet that is impossible to read/edit, I ripped magazines, and dusted.
Pretty exciting day huh. And I'm going to have to repeat this tomorrow too! The only good thing about my day is that I have a training session this afternoon which will hopefully pick my spirits up a bit. Oh, and P.S. I love you comes out on dvd today, which means, it's gonna be movie night! Or perhaps not. I just remembered, there's a new episode of Hell's Kitchen tonight and it's supposed to be a good one.
One thing that I do like about work is that I don't have someone hovering over my shoulder all day. So whenever I can, I watch episodes of Doctor Who. I've managed to watch a few eps from Season 2. Tomorrow, I think I'll bring a movie with me. That might makes things a little more spicy here and hopefully the time will pass by faster. The last half hour of work is always the most difficult to get through.
On the bright side, I leave for Hawaii in two weeks! I'll be chilling on the beach in Maui not thinking about anything in particular sipping a pina colada (or two - one for each hand). I can't wait to get on the road to Hana, see the black sand beaches, tour a volcano, go ziplining, try surfing, and maybe get a luau in if I can. When I'm not doing any one of those things, I'll be partying it up Hawaiian style. I wonder if they'll let me wear a grass skirt and coconuts...

Why me?

Two things today:

1) I went over to Tim Horton's to grab a sandwich and lo and behold. Just as I was taking out my wallet from my secret pocket in my handbag, a tampon flies out and lands right on the counter. I felt so embarassed, but I think the guy behind the counter turned a deeper shade of red than I did. I grabbed it as quickly as I could and shoved it back in my bag. Why me? I've always feared this would happen if I carried extra supplies. I mean, it's always better to be safe than sorry, but is this what I get for wanting to be prepared?

2) I was working on a report in this architectural firm that I now work for, and it asked me to recalculate volume and area. Stupid me, I forgot that it's just a simple multiplication of a couple of numbers (length, width, and height), so I asked the cute new hire for some help. He gave me a bit of a smile, we flirtatiously conversed, and I batted the ol' eye lashes. That's right, I did the whole Marilyn Monroe bit. If only I had the white dress and a big fan. *sigh*

At least it's Friday, ladies and gentlemen. PinkPolish and I are finally going to head out dancing on Saturday, right after I get my haircut. I'll keep ya'll posted on what happens this weekend!

My first fall

I hate fashion and I hate wide leg pants. To get into my building (for work) I have to go down a flight of stairs and through a backdoor to get to the elevators. I decided to wear my spiked heels and my wide leg pants today and I was doing just fine coming down the stairs, until the last step. I stepped down and stepped into my pants which made me fly forward, as there were other people coming down the stairs. *Sigh*

Luckily when I fell, I fell into the door, which isn't as bad as doing a face plant. But let me tell you, I was pretty embarassed. Of course, I did what any other sane woman would do, I laughed it off and blamed the pants.

Some days it sucks being a woman. I can tell from the way this morning went, that's it's gonna be one of those days....

Sex and the City: The death

Cynthia Nixon has revealed a main character dies in the upcoming 'Sex and the City: The Movie'.
The actress - who revealed this week she was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago - refused to name the unlucky person, but said the loss would devastate lead character Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker.

She said: "A character dies in the movie. There's a loss that happens that's pretty tough. Something significant happens to Carrie, and it really forces her to ask questions that you have to ask about yourself."

While it is unknown who dies, it could be Charlotte York-Goldenblatt - played by Kristin Davis - who falls pregnant but may suffer complications.

Another possible candidate is Kim Cattrall's maneater character Samantha Jones, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in the final series.

In one of the later episodes of the hit US TV show, Carrie's love interest Mr. Big - who she is rumoured to marry in the film - has open heart surgery.(C) BANG Media International

First class for cheap!

First-class seats for less
by Cynthia Ross Cravit, 50Plus.com

Discounted first class tickets are the airline industry's best kept secret.
Did you know that every domestic airline offers discounted first class tickets on planes that have a first class cabin? Referred to as "Y-Up" or "Q-Up" fares, they are usually 30 to 75 per cent less expensive than the full price for a first price ticket – and sometimes even cheaper than the full coach price.

These deeply discounted first class airline tickets are available only for travel within/between the United States and Canada. According to FareCompare.com, a travel web site that tracks over 100,000 of confirmed discounted first class airfares, the existence of Y-Up airfares is not widely known largely because they are intentionally published to look like a coach ticket for accounting purposes. In other words, the ticket fare code is economy, but the seats are allocated in the first class cabin.

"This sneaky little trick allows corporate travelers to legitimately and inexpensively get around their "No First Class Travel" policy," the company states on its web site. Y-Ups were originally issued to cater to an airline's best customers who purchase the most expensive coach tickets. Airlines make more revenue from these fares where first class seats would normally go unused or be filled by less lucrative frequent flier upgrades.

Here are some details.
• Y-Up airfares are almost always available, even on full flights, peak days and times (Mondays, Fridays, Sundays, Holidays) or last-minute trips.

• Most are sold as one-way fares, but to get the cheapest price you sometimes need to book a round-trip. Contact your airline directly to buy your ticket. And remember to ask for a Y-Up fare as many ticket agents will not offer it unless asked specifically.
• No advance purchase is necessary, although the cheapest fares sometimes have a 7-day advance purchase.
• The fares can be fully refundable and are always exchangeable.
• You can receive a confirmed seat in the first class cabin ahead of frequent flyer upgrades.
• Since Y-Up airfares are booked in the first class cabin, you will get frequent flyer mileage based on buying a first class ticket (this is usually twice the mileage award of a coach ticket).

Who benefits?
Frequent business travellers. For the same or cheaper price that many corporate travellers pay for refundable and last minute coach tickets, they can receive a confirmed first class cabin before frequent fliers are automatically upgraded.
Travellers who miss their flight. If you miss your flight, a Y-Up first class airline ticket could be less expensive than the walk-up coach ticket for the flight replacing the one you missed.
Special occasion travellers. Celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary? In some cases, Y-Up airfares are a better deal than using your frequent flyer miles for a first class seat.

Last minute travellers. In cases where coach walkup prices are expensive, Y-Ups can be a far better deal.

Travellers who require larger seats.

A caveat: Before booking a Y-Up fare, make sure all the planes on your itinerary actually have a first class cabin. You may end up on a regional jet on a segment of your journey that does not have a first class cabin.

Also, because the price of a Y-Up airfare is driven by competition within certain markets, keep in mind that you may not always get as much as a discount as you hope.
