Prehistoric Hug

So this is what I discovered on the BBC's website:

Italy mystery of prehistoric hug

The skeletons' bones were discovered interlaced Archaeologists in Italy have unearthed two skeletons thought to be 5,000 to 6,000 years old, locked in an embrace.

The pair from the Neolithic period were discovered outside Mantua, about 40km (25 miles) south of Verona.

The pair, almost certainly a man and a woman, are thought to have died young as their teeth were mostly intact, said chief archaeologist Elena Menotti.

The burial site was discovered on Monday during construction work for a factory building.

"It's an extraordinary case," said Ms Menotti. "There has not been a double burial found in the Neolithic period, much less two people hugging - and they really are hugging," she told Reuters news agency.

Flint tools, including arrowheads and a knife, were also found alongside the couple.
Scientists will now study the skeletons and artefacts to work out how and when the two people died, Ms Menotti said.

"I must say that when we discovered it, we all became very excited," she said.

"I've been doing this job for 25 years. I've done digs at Pompeii, all the famous sites, but I've never been so moved because this is the discovery of something special," she said.

It sure makes you think, if someone can have that kind of love for one another 6000 years ago, why can't we have that now? Why do we either run from it, hide from it, and avoid it?

Announcement

Ladies and Gentlemen of the blogging world, I have an announcement to make.

I think I have finally found a replacement for ToonMan. I haven't felt this way about a guy in a long time. I get butterflies in my tummy when I know I'm going to see him. Oh what joy! Or maybe this is all some sort of dream and I'm making things out to be more elated than they are. I guess we'll have to sit back and find out.

In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy this emotional high...

Anna Nicole Smith has died

Holy mother of the Lord baby Jesus. Anna Nicole Smith passed away yesterday. Now that's something that I never thought I would hear. I truly felt awful when I heard the news, especially since she has a five month old daughter. I sympathise with her immediate family and hope that all of this maddness surrounding her death will not cause a huge raucous. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, let them mourn in peace.

The Paper, The AGO, The Idiot, and The Sushi

It seems like I can never catch a break. This past Friday, I had a major paper due for one of my English classes (stupid Victorian literature). So, I spent an entire week researching, I spent one entire day (and night) writing this paper, only to still not finish it the next day. I went into work (at school) and sat at one of the computer terminals and continued writing my paper. Just as I reached my conclusion, the fire alarm goes off. Most people instinctively run out of the building, but me, I sat there and kept typing. I'd rather take my chances with the toxic fumes and being incinerated. The fire marshall eventually came up to me and said I had to leave. Reluctantly, I left the building.

Keep in mind, my class starts at 2:30, and the fire alarm was pulled at 1:55. It took the firemen a half hour to clear the building before we could enter it again. So finally, at 2:25, I got back inside, quickly hammered out a conclusion, printed my paper without looking it over, and went to class. I was about a half hour late and my professor's policy for papers is: If it's not handed in at the beginning of the class it's late. I went up to him during our 10 minute break, and explained the situation to him. He just laughed and said he would accept my paper with no late penalty. Thank God.

After that exhausting day, I went down to the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) to check out a cool black and white photography exhibit. Now mind you, I've been sleepless for 48 hours and I couldn't full appreciate the pictures. So Shewhomakesmencry and myself went across the street to the Village Idiot (a great pub) and had a drink. My other friend, NatureElf, ended up joining us afterwards. All together, we left the pub and went to a Japanese Restaurant in Kensington Market. I can officially say, I'm not a big fan of their food. All I had was the rice. And holy crap is it just me or are chop sticks that difficult to eat with!?!?!?!

After drinking and eating, we went back to the subway where we were hit on by some strange tall, lanky guys. Shewhomakesmencry and myself exited the car, and waited for the next one to come by rather than sitting there and facing the perverted ignoramuses.

Once I got home, I passed out. And that, ladies and gentlemen, was this past weekend. This weekend, it's gonna be PinkPolish's farewell party because she's heading to England for a week! Lucky bitch.

'Til next time, play nice in the sandbox.
